Benefits of Apples for Pregnant Women

Eat enough fruit for mothers who are pregnant or become pregnant is highly recommended. In the study, researchers from the Netherlands and Scotland led by S. M Willers of Utrecht University have tried to monitor the eating habits of 2,000 pregnant women and checked the lung health of children born after 5 years of their age. At the age of 5 years, 162 children experienced wheezing and as many as 145 children were diagnosed as having asthma.

Willer and colleagues noted the results of this study as a new discovery.


They found that pregnant women who consume more than 4 apples per week had a baby who had a 37% lower risk of a history of wheezing and 53% lower for asthma, compared to children of mothers who ate one apple per week or not at all. Specific relationship is found only in apples, but does not apply to citrus fruits, fruit juices, and vegetables. This indicates a specific effect of apples that may be caused by such fitokimiawi flavonoid that has shown positive benefits for lung function of adults.
